Fans had plenty to cheer about when the Sudbury Spartans football club hosted the North Bay Bulldogs in the second home game of the 2018 season. The Spartans came away with a touchdown on their first offensive drive and never looked back, racking up their first win of the season in a 62 – 6 pummeling.

The “Battle of the North” also served as the Spartan’s Hall of Fame Game as Walter Wilson was inducted into the NFC Hall of Fame prior to the second half. Before the game started the Spartans also honoured three members of the club who recently passed away. Stephen Fretz, Ernie Lekun, and Gary ‘Satch” Costello were remembered with a moment of silence acknowledging their contributions to football in the Sudbury Region and the Province on Ontario.

The stands were enthused as the Spartans dominated on the field.  A lucky spectator by the name of Neil won a $25 gift card from Buzzy Brown’s Restaurant as he was singled out as the Spartan fan of the game. The celebrations started early, with the opening of the beer tent at 6 pm and live music from DJ Shane starting shortly after for the pre-game entertainment.

The Spartans are on the road for the next two weeks as they take on the Sarnia Imperials and the Sault Steelers. Follow the action with live Twitter updates on @SudburySpartans. Next home game is June 23 at the James Jerome Field when the Spartans take on the GTA All-Stars.
