The stands were jammed at the James Jerome Sports Complex for the Sudbury Spartans season opener against the Steel City Patriots. The fans were loud, supporting their Spartans through a tough and gritty game.

Although the Spartans battled hard, the Patriots came out on top with a score of 22-7. Spartans rookie Matt Glass scored the Spartans only touchdown halfway through the second quarter with the extra point good. Rookie Spartan defensive back Riley Roy was named Miller High Life Player of the Game for his outstanding defense, nabbing two interceptions.

The team was cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd. Andy, Pat, Brenda, and Charlie showed their Spartans pride donning blue and silver and were selected as the Shoeless Joe’s Fan of the Quarter, pocketing a $25 gift card each.

Not only were the bleachers full, but the Beer Tent was hopping with Spartan enthusiasts enjoying pizza, the DJ’s tunes, and the game.

The Spartans will look to bounce back at home Saturday June 2, at 7:30 pm against the North Bay Bulldogs. The party starts at 6:00 pm with the opening of the Beer Tent.
